We recently celebrated our 43rd wedding anniversary and had family pictures taken. We certainly have a crowd when everyone is together! Pictures are of Karen and I, our children, grandchildren and everyone.

I have retired from everything except coaching track and field at Parkview high school in Lilburn GA. Had another shotputter on the podium at this years state meet.




It has been a while since I updated my profile and after having read it, lots has changed. I retired from teaching in 2012 but it didn’t take. That fall I worked for Newton County Schools in Covington, GA as an administrator for a Federal PEP Grant that helped physical education teachers improve their teaching skills. At the same time I taught a PE majors content course at Georgia State University. The grant was over in 2015. This past year I’ve been working on a research study with Blue Cross Blue Shield. We were studying the effects 30 minutes of exercise during the school day on academic achievement and behavioral referrals on 4,000 4th grade students in 3 different school districts in the Atlanta metro area. The results to be published in the next year or so.
I continue to coach track and field at Parkview High School. I had the state champion in the boys’ discus in 2014 and the state champion in the girls’ shot put in 2015.
I am still involved in the highland games. I retired from throwing in 2007 after 30 years but I still announce and judge. I am the voice of the Chicago games that take place in Itasca Illinois usually falls on the same weekend as Father’s day each year. I also announce for Glasgow, KY, Grandfather Mountain in Linville, NC and Stone Mountain here in GA. I held the world record “back in the day” in the sheaf toss, a popular event at the games. In my athletic life one of my fondest highlights was being inducted into NIU’s Hall of Fame in 2008.
In my teaching career I was named the National Elementary PE teacher of the year and then a Disney Teacher in 1995.
My mother passed away on August 1, 2015.
Karen and I celebrated our 42nd wedding anniversary this past May.
We had to recent weddings this spring. Brianne was married on April 3rd and Laura on June 11th. So only Ben and Alyssa are yet to wed. We have 6 grandchildren so far but with so many of our own children I expect many more to come.

Besides coaching, I think I have finally retired this year. I turned down teaching jobs at Georgia State and Kennesaw State for the fall. Looking forward to doing more gardening and woodworking this fall and pretend farming with our horses, goats and chickens.
